Featured Project

There isn't much that rivals the pride and joy of being able to change someone's home life.  This is PKD's fifth kitchen give-away and it was a great one!  The winner of our latest $25,000 Kitchen Make-over with 104.7 The Fish is Yarden Hixson.

Yarden is down to earth, kind hearted and as creative as she is a soothing spirit to be around.  She not only has an ability to create something from nothing but has a nack for using older items with an abundance of history and making them into something new and amazing.

Yarden and her husband, Andrew, live in a home that was built in 1916.  When we first saw their kitchen the range was flanked by the washer and dryer - A literal multi-tasking kitchen / laundry room in one.  It was a scary venture since we didn't know exactly what we were going to discover once we opened up the walls.  However, what we found would become inspiration for Yarden to use as design features like a barn door and wood plank accent wall in the new laundry room - Both made from the wood found inside the old walls.

It was also discovered that the ceiling could be raised significantly.  One more way to bring an old, crowded kitchen up to date so it works well and feels great to be in.

We are so happy to be a part of this project with such amazing people.  It's a very satisfying feeling to know that Yarden and Andrew have a lot of life to live and this kitchen will be a big part of their future and cherished history.
